The attention was focused on the issues of usefulness of the EU projects financed in the framework of the European Council Action Plan for Ukraine 2008-2011, where the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine participated.

S.Kivalov noted that such cooperation was useful and effective for Ukraine. “We felt the support of the Project in organizational, material and technical aspects and we are very grateful for this. However, there were moments when our cooperation could be even more effective. I think we will have topics for discussion and work, as we plan to make changes to certain codes. In particular, to improve the new Criminal Procedure Code, considering the views of practitioners - police, prosecutors and judges,” the Chair of the Committee stressed.  

Answering the questions of the delegation members on legislative plans in the nearest future, S.Kivalov noted that the Committee plans to hold committee hearings in April, when they will discuss the role and the place of the Supreme Court of Ukraine in the Ukrainian justice system. He expressed also his opinion that “alternative methods of dispute resolution, including pre-trial, and lengthy litigations - have great prospects in Ukraine.  

Marco Lorenzoni expressed his gratitude for the meeting and the Parties agreed to work more effectively to achieve access to justice and transparency of the judicial system of Ukraine.
